Life
Life
Relatable misery, daily edition.
Nobody warned you adulting would be this much paperwork, this many dishes, and one text message away from total panic at all times. Four little words — we need to talk — can send a grown adult speed-running every mistake since 2019, doing chores nobody assigned, and laughing too hard at jokes that are not funny, while she has already forgotten she sent it. It was about dinner. It was always about dinner.
This is the pile of grins for the everyday stuff that quietly runs your life: staring at an orange juice carton for a full hour because it said concentrate and instructions are instructions, growing up feral on hose water and streetlight curfews while your parents’ entire safety plan was good luck out there, and getting patiently explained to by somebody who is not arguing with you — she is teaching, you are just slow. Marriage, backaches, mystery leftovers, plans you made when you were optimistic and now have to attend while tired: it is all here, exactly as ridiculous as it felt at the time. No advice, no life hacks, no five-step anything. Just proof that everybody else is also winging it, slightly damp, and pretending this was the plan all along. If your back goes out more than you do, if your plans start at seven and your bedtime is also seven, pull up a chair. You are among your people now.
