Spooky season, day 1. Already exhausted. The decorations aren't even up — the boxes are still in the garage, the cobwebs are still in the bag, and this skeleton is running on fumes and last year's Halloween candy. He opened October like a kid on Christmas morning and immediately needed a nap. He peaked in September. Honestly? So did you.

September is the month of ambition: crisp air, falling leaves, "full haunted house this year." October is the month of consequences: a single string of orange lights by mid-month, and a guy handing out candy in his regular clothes telling kids he's "dressed as exhaustion."

Buried under the administrative burden of being scary — costume decisions, pumpkins to acquire, a fog machine with a manual he refuses to read. October is a lot of work for a guy with no muscles. But the second wind always arrives, usually when a neighbor's decorations look better. Nothing recharges a skeleton like spite.
